Associate Professor, Division of Environmental Coexistence Studies
PhD in Informatics (Kansai University)
Research Field: Spatial Information Science

After obtaining my degree from the Graduate School of Kansai University, I have been engaged in research and education at Kansai University, Ritsumeikan University, the University of Tokyo, and Osaka University of Economics.

My specialty is informatics. To date, I have conducted a broad range of research, from the fundamental field of computer science, involving operating systems and compilers (which are the basic mechanisms of computers), to applied fields involving big data analysis and modeling.

In recent years, I have been conducting applied research focusing on human mobility data. The primary objective of this work is to clarify how various factors related to urban space, including roads, railways, buildings, land use, and events such as disasters, affect patterns of human movement.

I am interested in developing models that reproduce human mobility behavior by leveraging machine learning techniques widely used in the field of artificial intelligence. Through this work, I aim to quantitatively analyze the relationships between urban spaces and human behavior, as well as to simulate human movement in virtual environments. Through the outcomes of this research, I seek to contribute to fields such as disaster response and urban development.

Throughout my research career, I have primarily conducted analyses using data from Japan. However, I have also gained experience in research projects focusing on Southeast Asia, including in Myanmar and Indonesia. Through these studies, I have had opportunities to exchange ideas with researchers from these countries, and my experiences conducting research and analysis grounded in local contexts remain particularly memorable.

Although it has been only two months since I joined CSEAS, interactions with its members and participation in seminars have convinced me that the expertise I have cultivated in my field can contribute meaningfully to Southeast Asian studies. Grateful for the opportunity to be part of CSEAS, I look forward to engaging in new research activities with a strong sense of responsibility.
